2015: How Spreading Awareness Can Attract More Problems

When bad things happen, how can we use the Law of Attraction to help?  Say, for example, you see some horrific news, maybe on television or perhaps on your social media.  Is it wise to broadcast this news to other people? When we care about a problem in society, isn’t spreading awareness to others the responsible thing to do?

The short, and at times unpopular, the answer is “no.”

We have been wired to believe that caring people spread awareness about problems and bad news.  Many people believe this is how we protect each other and find solutions.  However, promoting a negative event actually has a detrimental side effect: it adds momentum to the negative event.

We’ve seen this phenomenon at work in a number of areas in society.  Let’s consider these three problems in society today: bullying, school shootings, and cancer.

All three of these issues have had a lot of attention in society recently.  Though there are many people spreading awareness of these subjects, these problems are sticking around.  Despite our best intentions, these issues continue to plague society.

Unfortunately, it is the attention of the mass consciousness that is fueling these epidemics.  We attract more of whatever we are focused on.  Even though we desperately want to solve these problems, our focus only magnifies these issues because the Law of Attraction creates more of what we give attention to.

So what can we do to help when we hear bad news? Most of us want to be a part of the solution.  We care, and we want to help reduce suffering and bring more love and light into the world.

Fortunately, there is something we can do to help when we hear about negative events and circumstances.

Focus on solutions.  Focus on recovery.  Focus on the good.

For example, instead of re-posting upsetting cancer statistics on your social media, you could post information about people who have overcome cancer naturally or out of the blue.  Instead of talking about bullying, tell a friend about a kind act you saw a young person commit.  Instead of focusing on school shootings, focus on stories about good teachers and inspiring programs.

In other words, promote the subject in the way you want it to be.  Spreading awareness of problems creates more problems, but at the same time, spreading awareness of solutions and good things creates more solutions and good things.

This strategy can take some getting used to because many people today strongly believe that spreading awareness of problems is the right thing to do.  For some, moving away from the tendency to share bad news might feel awkward, uncaring, or even heartless at first.

Remember, though, if you want things to be better-the the most productive and effective thing to do is to focus on the solutions and what’s going right, rather than on the problems and what’s going wrong.

Keep this principle of the Law of Attraction in mind the next time you see a story about the disaster on social media,  a commercial that tugs at your heart-strings or a disturbing news story.  You have the power to help turn things around with your attention, so long as your attention focuses on a positive outcome.
