Many of us are familiar with the popular spice, turmeric. Aside from making dishes taste amazing, it is an excellent natural alternative for the treatment of back pain and inflammation.
A great deal of the pain associated with back problems is due to high levels of inflammation in the body. Most people turn to non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or aspirin, however, regular use of these medications is associated with significant, very serious side effects (like a bleeding stomach).
A number of studies have found turmeric to be effective in reducing inflammation in the body. This is all thanks to the active ingredient in turmeric called curcumin, which literally blocks inflammatory pathways that normally trigger swelling and pain. The compound is thought to work by inhibiting a number of different molecules that play a role in inflammation in the body.
Ginger is also another great herb to be used for anti-inflammatory purposes. A study published in The Journal of Arthritis actually found that consuming just a small amount of ginger is more effective at reducing pain symptoms and inflammation than painkillers given by general practitioners today.
Pain relief from this juice can come in as little as 20 minutes, but to get consistent results, try to aim for at least once a day.
