2005: A Deadly Epidemic and the Attempt to Hide its Link to Genetic Engineering

THE THALIDOMIDE OF GENETIC ‘ENGINEERING’ L R B Mann, D Straton & W E Crist http://www.connectotel.com/gmfood/trypto.html A Deadly Epidemic and the Attempt to Hide its Link to Genetic Engineering Spilling the Beans, August 2005 Institute of Responsible Technology introduction In my book Seeds of Deception, I bring out new information about the genetically engineered food supplement L-tryptophan, which was responsible for a deadly epidemic in the United States in the 1980s. Much of the research for the chapter came from the work of investigator William Crist. The book cited Crist’s report, which was expected to have been posted on a website well in advance of my book’s publication. Unfortunately, Crist was unable to update his report at that time. It is now available at http://www.seedsofdeception.com/Public/L-tryptophan/index.cfm […] Read More

Why Chestnuts Should Be A Part Of Your Regular Diet

It happens every year, November rolls around and we immediately get bombarded with the Christmas season. For some, the lights, decorations and extended store hours marks the beginning of their happiest time of the year, while for others it can be found as dreaded and/ or annoying. Why am I talking about Christmas in an article about how chestnuts should become a part of your regular diet? Because for many -due in large part to the infamous ‘The Christmas Song’ -chestnuts and Christmas go hand in hand. “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…” – The Christmas Song, Originally Recorded By Nat King Cole Whether or not this common correlation applies in your life, here is why chestnuts should get some serious consideration to become a […] Read More

2013: Beef Corp Will Label Products Containing Pink Slime

By Susanne Posel Occupy Corporatism Cargill will begin labeling their beef products that have “finely textured beef” (FTB) or pink slime and genetically engineered ingredients. FTB is made from processing other cuts of beef trimmings that were washed in ammonia. John Keating, president of beef operations at Cargill said: “Our research shows that consumers believe ground beef products containing finely textured beef should be clearly labeled. We’ve listened to the public, as well as our customers, and that is why today we are declaring our commitment to labeling finely textured beef.” Michael Martin, spokesman for Cargill stated: “Not all of the ground beef products contained the binder.” The corporation will label those that do. This includes: • Excel brand • Our Certified Ground Beef Patty Lovera, assistant director […] Read More

THE DARK SIDE OF MONSANTO

Right now, there is probably no other company that is doing more to endanger the health of this planet, and it’s inhabitants. With Nazi-like attitude, they are leading the world in shear destructive evil greed. First they were a drug company, and then they expanded to become a drugs and genetic engineering company, and now Monsanto is attempting to acquire water rights in countries with water shortages in a move to control the people’s basic means of survival, and production of the global food supply. Giant transnational corporations like Monsanto, in collusion with the World Bank and the World Trade Organization, seek to commodify and privatize the world’s water and put it on the open market for sale to the highest bidder. Millions of the […] Read More

2013: 5 Things We Can Learn from the Battle Against GMOs

Here are five strategic lessons from the ongoing battle against GMOs that are applicable to a broad range of political issues. Twenty years after the controversial introduction of unlabeled and untested genetically engineered foods and crops, opposition to GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) and Monsanto has created one of the largest netroots-grassroots movements in the U.S. There are arguably more important issues facing us today than the battle against Frankenfoods. The climate crisis and corporate control over government and media come to mind. But the rapidly growing anti-GMO movement illustrates the powerful synergy that can develop from the combined use of social media, marketplace pressure and political action. Recent developments in this sector indicate that out-of-control corporations, media, politicians and the proverbial “1 percent” can be […] Read More

Foods to Avoid by New Moms

When a new mother is breastfeeding, she has to remember that whatever she is eating will be passed on to her baby through the milk she is feeding her baby. Though there are no off-limit foods, there are certain foods that babies cannot tolerate usually. This is because babies have a weak digestive system and any imbalance in the food would cause havoc in the baby’s stomach. This would create gastric issues and stomach pain, which would make the baby suffer too much. If you are a new mom, then make sure you avoid these foods to avoid any kind of discomfort to the baby. We already wrote on a similar topic: How to Help a Child? Caffeine: Even if a cup of hot steaming […] Read More

2013: Meet the Opposite of Monsanto — These Are the Folks That Really Feed the World

Meet the people fighting resource grabs, cultivating traditional crops, and defending their communities from exploitation by multinationals. When it comes to ‘feeding the world,’ agribusiness keeps selling the same old “solutions” that are actually undermining people’s access to healthful and sustainable food: massive industrialized farming operations, biotech (GMO) crops, pesticide-intensive mono-cropping, and so-called “free trade” agreements. They insist we just need to produce more food (with their seeds and petrochemicals) for the nearly one billion people who go hungry each year—yet landfills overflow with food waste in countries where agribusinesses have gained control of seeds, livestock, markets, and prices. In spring 2013, Monsanto grabbed headlines when its genetically modified wheat, MON71800—not approved for production or consumption—was found growing in a farmer’s field.  Yet in June, Monsanto and […] Read More

2013: Trans Fats busted

In my research on the new trans fats labeling laws, I found, in my opinion, a very serious infraction being perpetrated on American consumers by the food companies….. If you have been out label shopping lately, you have probably come across labels reading “0 Grams Trans Fat“, in foods such as margarine, bean dips, chips, and many other foods that typically contain the notoriously dangerous trans fats, known as “partially hydrogenated oil, hydrogenated oil, and vegetable shortening”. If you look at the “Ingredients:” portion of the label, you will still see these hydrogenated oils listed in the content of the foods, sometimes listed as a third ingredient, as in the Frito Lay Bean Dip, indicating a higher weight than ingredients listed toward the end. I called Frito […] Read More
