The United States Drug Enforcement Administration chief Chuck Rosenberg has some strong words about medical marijuana… the only problem is those words contradict all of the known science on cannabis to date.
Rosenberg said Wednesday that he doesn’t think marijuana can actually be “medicinal”. He added that the entire premise of “medical marijuana” is a “joke,” according to a CBS News.
“What really bothers me is the notion that marijuana is also medicinal — because it’s not,” Rosenberg said to reporters. “We can have an intellectually honest debate about whether we should legalize something that is bad and dangerous, but don’t call it medicine. That is a joke.”
“There are pieces of marijuana — extracts or constituents or component parts — that have great promise medicinally,” he admitted. “But if you talk about smoking the leaf of marijuana, which is what people are talking about when they talk about medicinal marijuana, it has never been shown to be safe or effective as a medicine.”
The problem is, Rosenberg has been proven dead wrong by countless scientific studies. In spite of his DEA role, he apparently has not seen it fit to examine these scientific studies.
Earlier this year, Rosenberg publicly commented that even though marijuana was “probably not” as dangerous as heroin, it was still “harmful and dangerous.”
Once again, he offered zero scientific evidence to support his fear-mongering claims.
To date, there have been numerous scientific, peer-reviewed studies that all demonstrate marijuana as an effective treatment for countless medical conditions.
Solid research has revealed that marijuana possesses medicinal value, even when – and sometimes especially – when smoked.
Perhaps the most clear study conducted to date, was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. In it, researchers reviewed the evidence and concluded that marijuana in its smoked form can be effectively used treat chronic pain and muscle spasticity.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound in marijuana which has been repeatedly proven to treat seizures and other medical conditions.
In spite of the bizarrely antiquated DEA rules, 80% of American states permit some form of medial marijuana use to those who are in need.
Isn’t it time that the DEA wake up to the 21st century?
