The Best Form of Meditation You’re (Probably) Not Doing

You might know this about me already, but I’m a big advocate for meditation of all kinds.  There are a multitude of different types of meditation options available. With so many options, it can be pretty confusing to know what to do and what will work best for you. I’m going to touch briefly on two popular types of meditation for this article, and then dive into a third type that is my personal favorite. The first type of meditation is one pretty much everyone has heard of: Transcendental Meditation, or which falls into the category of “mantra meditation,” where the practitioner repeats a mantra silently in order to calm the stream of thoughts that arise from the mind. TM has become a big business […] Read More

The Strongest ‘Gateway Drug’ Is 100% Legal!

You may have heard that marijuana is a gateway drug. Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie makes this argument seemingly every chance he gets. Anti-drug groups often make similar claims. The evidence seems convincing enough at first blush: studies show that 99 percent of illicit drug users tried marijuana before they did any other drugs. But on its own, this line of thinking actually is pretty tenuous: we could also safely assume that 99 percent of illicit drug users also tried coffee, or soda, or chocolate milk before moving on to stronger substances. New research out this month in the Journal of School Health could shed some light on this question. A team of researchers from Texas A&M and the University of Florida examined data from […] Read More

A Buddhist Monk Shows “Unheard Of” Brain Activity During Meditation

What happens with the brain activity during meditation? “Meditation is the dissolution of thoughts in eternal awareness or pure consciousness without objectification, knowing without thinking, merging finitude in infinity.” ―Voltaire Matthieu Ricard, a 66-year old Tibetan monk and geneticist, produces brain gamma waves—linked to consciousness, attention, learning and memory—never before reported in neuroscience, leading researchers to conclude that Ricard is the world’s happiest man. The secret to his success in achieving bliss? Meditation, he claims. “Meditating is like lifting weights or exercising for the mind”, Ricard told the Daily News. “Anyone can be happy by simply training their brain”, he says. To quantify just how happy Ricard is, neuroscientists at the University of Wisconsin attached 256 sensors to the monk’s skull. When he meditated on compassion, the researchers were shocked to […] Read More

How TV Affects Your Brain Chemistry for the Worst

Have you ever overheard an intense or heart-wrenching discussion only to find out the talkers were actually hashing out the lives of fictional TV characters? Do you ever wonder why people are so easily beguiled into trusting the talking heads? It might not be such a mystery when you find out how easy it is for TV programming — the waves it emits, the storytelling — to override basic brain function and even damage your body. Reported earlier by Truthstream Media: Back in 1969, a man named Herbert Krugman conducted a series of experiments regarding the effect of television on a person’s brainwaves. What he found was pretty startling: Krugman monitored a person through many trials and found that in less than one minute of […] Read More

How TV Affects Your Brain Chemistry for the Worst

Scientists discover a “mini-brain” in spinal cord that helps keep us balanced

Keeping ourselves upright is something most of us shouldn’t need to think a whole lot about, given we’ve been doing it almost our entire lives. But when it comes to dealing with more precarious terrain, like walking on ice or some sort of tight rope, you might think some pretty significant concentration is required. But researchers have found that even in our moments of great instability, our subconsciousness is largely responsible for keeping us from landing on our backsides. This is due to what scientists are describing as a mini-brain, a newly mapped bunch of neurons in the spinal cord which processes sensory information and could lead to new treatment for ailing motor skills and balance. “How the brain creates a sensory percept and turns […] Read More

Spontaneous Remission of Disease – What We Don’t Know About Healing

Christina Sarich, Natural Society Waking Times What if I told you that all manner of disease – from cancerous tumors the size of oranges to brain diseases, gastrointestinal disease, parasites, loss of sight, mental disorders, reproductive issues, muscular diseases and even viruses – could go away spontaneously? You don’t have to take my word for it. The Institute of Noetic Sciences has a database of over 3,500 documented, verifiable cases of diseases, often life-threatening, that go away all on their own. The people who had these diseases might have sought allopathic medical treatment that wasn’t working, or simply refused to get ‘treatment’ in the traditional sense at all, but there is one thing that makes all of these cases commonly remarkable. They involve what is called the […] Read More
