If you’re like me, there are days when your “to do” list seems endless. This morning as I read through the list of things that absolutely had to get done today, one of my four cats jumped in my lap and began to purr vigorously. I petted him for minute or so while multi-tasking with the other hand, then explained, “I have to get some things done.” He didn’t budge. He didn’t care. He stayed put. That’s when I got the message: “Put me on your ‘to do’ list!” Simple as that, he lovingly looked at me and implied the question, “Where is ‘time for love’ on your list?” When I get home from running errands, my dog comes running from wherever he may have […] Read More

Try this simple test: Sit or stand wherever you are and take a deep breath. Then let it out. What expanded more as you inhaled, your chest or your belly? If the answer is your chest, you’re a “chest breather,” and like most people you’re doing it all wrong. You may also be putting your health in jeopardy. The technique is so powerful that physician James Gordon teaches it to nearly every patient he sees, from people with advanced cancer to those crippled by arthritis to schoolchildren struggling with attention deficit disorder. He’s taught it to refugees in war-torn Kosovo, to anxiety-plagued medical students at Georgetown University and to hundreds of health professionals who have attended his workshops on mind-body-spirit medicine. “Slow, deep breathing is probably the single best anti-stress medicine […] Read More
According to ongoing research, daily consumption of Cherry Juice reduces the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. To date no other fruit or vegetable has the pain relieving properties of Montmorency Cherries. According to research at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan the presence of three powerful anthocyanins in Montmorency Cherries prevents inflammation. A major population of Americans suffers from some form of joint disease, including osteoarthritis and gout. Pain from arthritis reduces mobility and quality of life. Unfortunately, there is no cure. However, there are reasonable natural, and even flavorful, methods to managing your arthritis or gout pain. Research has taught us that inflammation associated with arthritic disorders is the chief cause of discomfort. Foods that decrease inflammation can reduce the pain associated with […] Read More
Here are some postures that you can do right at your desk, at your computer, or in your office. SEATED TWIST IN A CHAIR Begin by sitting tall in your chair. Press your feet down on the floor or if they don’t reach the floor (mine don’t from this chair) let them rest on a book or a block. Feel your spine elongate. Press your sitz bones down into the chair. Press the crown of your head up. And remember that your shoulders are down. You should feel tall in your chair. And you want to be relaxed. Breathe. Next, take your left arm and bring it down across your body and place your hand on the outside of your right thigh. Bring your right […] Read More
Diagram of the position of the Major Chakras and their affiliation to particular colors and crystals. by Rosemary Angelis The premise of Vibrational Healing is that everything vibrates on a certain frequency. All objects, even wooden tables, are made up of molecules which vibrate to create their mass. Colour is also simply a vibration of light refracted in different ways. Sound is a vibration that travels through the air in waves. Crystals have been monitored and shown to give off vibrations and create a pulse which can be used in clocks and electrical equipment. The concept of harmonising through vibrations is simple. A human being is made up of many levels. His/her physical shell is only one layer of his complete make-up. His/her emotions and spirituality are contained in layers which are many-fold throughout his /her energy-field or “aura”; Kirlian Photography […] Read More
Food enzymes in raw food are vital for digesting that food, but their destruction during cooking is a key factor in today’s rising levels of allergies and chronic degenerative diseases. ——————————————————————————– Extracted from Nexus Magazine, Volume 10, Number 6 (October-November 2003) PO Box 30, Mapleton Qld 4560 Australia. editor@nexusmagazine.com Telephone: +61 (0)7 5442 9280; Fax: +61 (0)7 5442 9381 From our web page at: www.nexusmagazine.com © 2003 by Mark Rojek 785 N. Introduction Proteolytic enzymes (or proteases) refer to the various enzymes that digest (break down into smaller units) protein. These enzymes include the pancreatic proteases chymotrypsin and trypsin, bromelain (pineapple enzyme), papain (papaya enzyme), fungal proteases, and Serratia peptidase (the “silk worm” enzyme). Preparations of proteolytic enzymes have been shown to be useful in the following situations: Cancer Digestion support Fibrocystic breast disease Food allergies Hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) Hepatitis C Herpes zoster (shingles) Inflammation, sports injuries and trauma Pancreatic insufficiency Multiple sclerosis Rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune disorders Sinusitis, asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Proteolytic enzymes in cancer therapy Proteolytic enzymes have a long history of use in cancer treatment. In 1906, John Beard, a Scottish embryologist, reported on the successful treatment […] Read More
By Jeremy Laurance, Health Editor Published: 28 March 2006 New research suggesting that vitamin C can be effective in curing cancer will renew interest in the “alternative” treatment for the terminal disease. Three cancer patients who were given large intravenous doses over a period of several months had their lives extended and their tumours shrunk, doctors reported yesterday. A 49-year-old man diagnosed with terminal bladder cancer in 1996 was still alive and cancer-free nine years later, having declined chemotherapy and radiotherapy in favour of regular infusions of vitamin C. A 66-year-old woman with an aggressive lymphoma who had a “dismal prognosis” in 1995 was similarly treated and is still alive 10 years later. A 51-year-old woman with kidney cancer that spread to her lungs diagnosed […] Read More
Inspired by Better Basics for the Home, by Annie B. Bond (Three Rivers Press, 1999). During the time of the Black Plague a family of perfumers robbed the dead. As perfumers they knew well the antiseptic essential oils, and they infused them in vinegar and rubbed them on their bodies; by doing so they protected themselves from certain death. The doctors of the time used the same herbs and essential oils to to protect themselves while tending so many who were contagious. They wore big cloaks over their heads that reached down well below their shoulders. Attached to the cloak over the nose and mouth was a 10” long canoe-like shaped beak full of antiseptic herbs and essential oils. You can make natural antibacterial products […] Read More
In traditional herbal medicine systems, herbal remedies are prepared in several rather standardized ways which usually vary based upon the plant utilized, and sometimes, what condition is being treated. Some of these methods include: infusions (hot teas), decoctions (boiled teas), tinctures (alcohol and water extracts), and macerations (cold-soaking) which are detailed more fully herein. In indigenous Indian medicine systems, medicine men or shamans generally use these same methods in addition to others. Others include preparing plants in hot baths (in which the patient is soaked in it or bathed with it), inhalation of powdered plants (like snuff), steam inhalation of various aromatic plants boiled in hot water, and even aromatherapy. The well-trained herbalist will always throughly review the time-honored method in which a plant has […] Read More
