Most saucer-shaped crafts come complete with a rounded or beveled type dome on top. The flat top is a very similar type of craft with the exception that the top is flat, resembling a straw hat.
It is thought to be one of the rarer type of craft and was predominately witnessed in the 1940s through to the 1950s. Descriptions of the flat top craft range from a dull aluminum to a brightly polished silver or metallic. When looking up at this craft, the underneath may appear darker or often black.
Nighttime colors range from solidly lit yellow, amber, orange, red and blue or blue-violet, to a brilliant white. Because of halos which surround this craft, it is often difficult during the period of darkness to actually distinguish the shape of this craft.
Accompanying sounds at close quarters range from a buzz, whine or hum. The sound rises in both pitch and intensity seconds before and during take-off from hovering or a landed position. The flat top, when observed seem at the time to vibrate and jitter. It is not known if these are actual movements,or are in some way connected to an optical effect.
REPORT 1
Idaho, August 15th 1947
From Mr A. C. Urie, who operates the Auger Falls Trout Farm six miles west of Blue Lake Ranch in Snake River Canyon.
Here is Mr. Uries eyewitness description of the flying disc seen by him and his sons Keith, 8 and Billy, 10. “I obtained a close-up view of the flying saucer as it passed by the trout farm at 1pm, August 13th, down Snake River Canyon at a height of about 75 feet from the canyon floor. I would estimate the speed of about 1,000 miles per hour.”
Urie explained that the incident occurred while the two boys were coming across the river from the north side in a boat. He had become concerned about what was delaying them and had walked down to the river to see if they were all right.
“I had a side view at a distance of about 300 feet and almost on a level with the thing. Two of my boys, Keith and Billy, were below me and they also saw it at about a 45 degree angle. They both got a bottom and a side view, and we were all looking at it from the south side of the canyon.
It was all one color, sort of a light sky blue with a red tubular fiery glow at the top, or hood.
Sketch of object seen by Mr. A C Urie and sons in Snake River Canyon, as it appeared in the Twin Falls, Idaho, Times News, August 15th 1947
The canyon floor is rough at that particular point and it rode up and down over the hills and hollows at a speed indicating some type of control faster than the reflexes of man. It is my opinion that it is guided by instruments and must be powered by atomic energy as it made very little noise, just a s-w-i-s-h as it passed by”. Mr. Urie described the size as about 20 feet long by 10 feet high and 10 feet wide, giving it an oblong shape.
It might be described as looking like an inverted pie plate or a broad-brimmed straw hat that had been compressed from two sides. As the machine went by the Urie place, the trees over which it almost directly passed (Mormon poplar) did not just bend with the wind as if a plane had gone by but in Urie’s words, “spun around on top as if they were in a vacuum.” Keith Urie, eight years of age, said he first saw the machine coming down the canyon, heading from east to west and following the contours of the ground. Billy, ten, saw it almost immediately. Both watched it fly out of sight behind a tree in a matter of moments. They said they ran to their father and learned that he too had seen the machine.
Heflin UFO Photos Santa Ana, California August 3, 1965
Rex Heflin worked for the Orange county as a highway inspector.
Part of his job was to examine and record any roadside defects, including signs or obstructions.
It was this reason that Mr Heflin carried a Polaroid land camera as part of his equipment. It was while he was about to take a photo of trees obstructing a railway sign that he saw a Flat top ufo.
Grabbing his camera he took four photographs of the craft.
Three of the craft itself and a fourth of a smoke ring apparently left behind when the craft departed.
These photos over the years have been studied in great depth by scientist and professional photographic institutions using sophisticated equipment.
And to date it is still one of the greatest ‘classic’ ufo reports

Report 3
Location USA.
Myself and a friend were sitting in a parked car on a cold winter evening when a UFO passed slowly by.
We were at the rear of a brightly lit parking lot behind at 70 ft tall insurance company building.
The ground was covered with snow which reflected the light from the parking lot lamps into the night sky. We witnessed a round metallic looking craft move slowly over the insurance company building.
It was approx. 100 ft in the air and moving about 10 mph. It was approx. 60 ft in diameter and had the texture of stainless steel.
It was flat on top with short straight sides that then angled down to the base.
We got a real good look at it since the lights from the parking lot were reflecting off the snow and shining up at it. We were approx. 100 yards away from the back of the building when it went over.
We saw no lights and heard no sound as it passed by. It was in plain view for approx. 15 seconds. This was not a distant light in the sky! This was up close and real. It happened 20 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.
I don’t know who was in it or if it was from this world but the two of us definitely saw it up close. It was some kind of craft, that’s all I know. I have never seen any lights in the sky nor have I seen anything like this again in the 20 years that have passed since this encounter.
