Some months ago, I recall seeing an interesting piece of footage that apparently depicted an object in flight, as viewed through thermal imaging cameras aboard a DHS aircraft, as it passed over Puerto Rico.
Apart from an ambiguous object seen streaking through the sky and the agency reportedly behind it, the video left a lot to the imagination. Many suggested it was a balloon, while others said it was more likely to have been a bird. The latter explanation had been suggested due to a particularly odd characteristic observed toward the end of the footage: the unidentified flying object is seen entering the ocean and traveling intermittently above and below the surface as it leaves the vicinity.

My friend Alejandro Rojas of OpenMinds has reported on this footage at length since it first appeared online. Now, in conjunction with the release of a new 161-page report on the object, released by the Scientific Coalition for Ufology (SCU), Rojas presents several of the latest determinations about the object discussed within the report, which include verification that it was filmed by the DHS, as well as new estimates about the speed it had been traveling, and ideas as to what the object could have been.

Research on the video began when an acquaintance to the pilot of the aircraft that captured the video contacted Daina Chaviano, a famous Cuban-born fantasy and science fiction author. She is also a volunteer with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) in Florida, where in her spare time she investigates UFO reports. She took the UFO case to her colleague, Morgan Beall, who runs the Florida MUFON chapter.
Chaviano and Beall were so impressed by what they saw they assembled a small group of skeptical researchers with backgrounds in various fields of science and technology. The pilot’s acquaintance requested strict control of the information provided and that knowledge of the investigation be limited to a very few people, so until now, the researchers have not shared any information regarding their investigation.

Among the more interesting theories about what the object may have been, a new US Navy drone project is summarized, which involves a UAV called the Flimmer. This details an aircraft with both flight and aqueous capacities, although the authors note that thermal heat signature of the object is inconsistent with the internal combustion engine, jet engine, or rocket which such a drone aircraft might utilize, and thus the determination of the authors is that there is no reasonable expectation that the object in the film represents any known kind of drone technology.
While conclusions about the identity and the origin of the object remain absent, the authors note that it is among “the best documentation of an unknown aerial and submerged nautical object exhibiting advanced technology” they had ever witnessed.
If the object is indeed taken to be technological in origin, then it is the opinion of this author that they may be right. The footage does not present us with evidence for alien visitation, nor does it give us distinct ideas about the technology which is supposedly represented herein. It does, however, suggest strongly that technologies that well exceed our known advancements in military and aviation applications are present in our midst; as to their possible origin, for the time being, many questions will have to remain.
