Here is what seems to be the standard conservative view: Since there is no basis for the popular belief, to begin with, any attempted response on the part of the government is only likely to stir that pot and thus be counter-productive. The opposing view is that by inadequately responding, the government is contributing to the perception of a cover-up. BUFFALO, Oct. 26–Special flying devices in the supersonic field, built for the Government in cooperation with other organizations, have attained speeds of 1,400 miles an hour, almost twice the speed of sound, Dr. C. C. Furnas, director of the Curtiss-Wright Research Laboratory, revealed here today.
