Basically, this rumor had originated from what appeared to be a disinformative article that first appeared in the June 1997 issue of POPULAR MECHANICS. The unexpected article no doubt was greatly “appreciated” by Nellis AFB and particularly those at the “remote operating base” at Groom Lake, Nevada. The folks at Nellis AFB probably rolled on floor laughing over the article, which was for the most part filled with factual errors, much to their absolute delight!! Transcript of V.L.’s Custer, South Dakota Meeting in August 1995. This is a transcript from a tape of a talk that he gave regarding his 12 years at Area 51. V.L. is an upstanding citizen, a gentleman, and speaks the truth, this we assure you. I spent from June of 1965 to August of 1977 directly on the Nevada Test Site, worked there full time. I was Radiation – Health and Safety. Most of the time I worked there, I either worked for Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, Lawrence Radiation Laboratory out of Livermore, Berkeley rather, California or Sandia Corporation out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. 2002: Project Orion

Material published on the Serpo site in August 2006 mentions a Project ORION. It allegedly is a fairly recent project that since 2002 tests alien propulsion systems at the Nevada Test Site. Other sources mention different names for such a program. See Pluto, Redlight, and Snowbird. It is possible, however, that Orion would be the more recent name. A similar program exists in Canada and is called Magnet. Project Orion also is the name of a program in France, developed by the French Ministry of Defense, for the purpose of monitoring, identifying and predicting the passage of satellites over French territory.

Established in 1954.  The mission of RED LIGHT is to test fly a recovered alien craft. It is conducted at AREA 51 (DREAMLAND) in Groom Lake, Nevada. The initial project was somewhat successful in that we flew a recovered craft but it blew up in the air and the pilots were killed. PROJECT REDLIGHT was terminated in 1962 – 63 after a recovered craft exploded during test flights. There were no survivors among the human test pilots. The project was suspended at that time until the aliens agreed to help us. Afterwards it was resumed with a different name (?Snowbird Project?)
